Maggie Grace is an American actor who was born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her best-known roles include Shannon Rutherford, a character on ABC's Lost series, and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. Maggie Grace, originally from Worthington located in Ohio dropped out of high school in order to move into Los Angeles after her divorced parents. As she struggled financially, she was able to land her first role as the title character in the online video series Rachel's Room in the year 2001. In 2002 she was nominated for an Young Artist Award with her part as the 15-year-old murder victim Martha Moxley. Grace Rutherford played Shannon Rutherford for Lost's first two seasons in 2004, as well as sharing with her a Screen Actors Guild Award (with all the other actors) alongside her. Grace was keen to pursue film after starring opposite Tom Welling's character, The Fog, in 2005. The actress starred as a character in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club in both 2007 and Taken (2008) with Liam Neeson. She reprised her role in Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the lead role Alice in Malice in Wonderland a modern take on Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace was Shannon again in Lost's final episode and two other episodes. The year 2013 saw Grace appear in the episode Californianation of the 6th Season. She portrays Faith who's both an avid stargazer as well as a the girl in the group. Hank Moody, played by David Duchovny, falls for her. Being part of the Gyllenhaal Family, she is the daughter and elder sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal. She began her career in the teen years with minor parts in a few of the films of her father and starred with her brother in the popular cult film Donnie Darko (2001). She appeared next in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind as well as Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was nominated to win an Golden Globe Award in both the action drama Sherrybaby (2005) and the love story Secretary (2002). The two movies were critically acclaimed. In the wake of several successful commercial films in 2006 such as World Trade Center she received greater recognition for her performance as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). In the film, her performance as Crazy Heart as a mother who has a child earned her nomination to an Academy Award Best Supporting Actress. She subsequently starred in the comedy and dramas Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria (2011) and Will Not Back Down (2012). Apart from her character as an agent of the Secret Service agent, she also appeared on screen in White House Down (2013) and Frank (2014). Her most recent roles were her character as the primary protagonist The Kindergarten Teacher The Kindergarten Teacher (2018). Gyllenhaal's debut as a filmmaker and writer took place in 2021, with The Lost Daughter, a psychological drama that won her the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. She also was awarded the Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
